We all have thick skin. Its something that I think a lot of the world is missing. Life will knock you down every chance it gets, but modern society says sit there and meditate on the ground until you become “enlightened” about your experience. Do you know what salesmen do? We get up and chase the bastard down. Because he wanted a fight and now he’s getting it.
I’m tired of the crunchy granola, everybody gets a trophy society we live in. I’m tired of people blaming other people When they fuck up. I’m tired of people reaching for the deeper meaning. Just act. Get up today, stop meditating, and start fighting!

I think thick skin and desperation look surprisingly similar from the other side of the desk/phone though. Coming from a salesmen.

That’s one of the things I love most about working construction. We could just say anything to each other. It was fantastic. As a teacher now, if I say a fraction of those things, the children cry ... ask me how I know.

Well, if you think your customers are “bastards” then you have a clue why people don’t like salesmen.

Yeah, but even in situations where you’re just breaking balls, there are still lines you shouldn’t cross.

As a fellow hardhat wearer, I couldn’t agree more. Boilermakers will make your ears bleed with the shit they say, and I love it.

I’m thinking buying a car from you would be a truly “enlightening” experience.

Basically this. I know of very few salesmen with actual thick skin.

I made a kid cry in math class in middle school (I was a student, not a teacher). Got our tests back and he had a couple marked wrong on the back. I picked up a red pen on the ground and said “here, it matches your test”. He ran out of the room crying. We flipped his test over to see his grade and he got something like a 50/100. He was usually a straight A kid so he was pretty upset with himself. I apologized and tried to make things better. Most of us did bad on said test so he felt better somewhat. I never did anything like that to him again. Super nice but very sensitive.

Sounds like you need a hug and maybe a little spooning. My place or yours? ;)

So you didn’t read the post? There are so many other obstacles in life besides just customers.

Do you think it would not? You could teach me how granola is ruining society.

What does that have to do with the car business? You could apply that style of thinking to literally every other career. Now you may not have to be that way in every other career, but you could.

In general, I agree. Our crew, however, had no boundaries.

Oh wow, that was a rough one!
Good on you for apologizing. We all have those things in our past that we wish we hadn’t said or done. What separates the good from the bad, is what we do after the fact.

Not necessarily, though I would say some people disagree. I’m just tired of always having to bite my tongue because people are delicate little flowers these days.

Your choice of words in this and other posts definitely makes you sound like a prick. You don’t have to be, though.
There’s a huge difference between honesty and being a prick. You don’t have to sugar-coat facts, but at the same time you don’t have to be so aggressive with speech.
Let me ask:
Have you ever used the term “SJW” as a pejorative?
Do you own, or have you taken lessons from, at least two of these books:
The Prince
by Niccolo Machiavelli
The Art of War
by Sun Tsu
Instructions for his Generals
by Frederich the Great
Any treatise or novel by Ayn Rand
Do you say offensive things, and then get angry when someone’s offended?
Yes to any of those questions makes you a fucking prick. Your prick friends may enjoy your company, but if people shy away from you it isn’t because they’re too sensitive. It’s because you’re a douchebag and you make their lives unpleasant.

You’re getting called out as a prick? WTF?
I spent half my life as a “turn the other cheek” “nice guy” type and it got me nowhere. Things didn’t start changing until I got aggressive about the things I wanted or valued.
I agree with your stance 100% and if that makes me a prick? I’ll be the prick smoking a Cigar with a big smile on his face knowing he made things happen instead of wishing they could happen.

Amen! And the guy calling me a prick is obviously not someone who believes in winning or losing or personal responsibility.

“I’m tired of people blaming other people When they fuck up.”
Me too especially lately with people who think being a jerk is everybody’s fault but their own. Everyone else is way too sensitive.
Has anyone been enlightened selling cars?
Maybe people want to find meaning is a symptom of people who have chased success money sex possessions and found it didn’t make them happy or learned from the experiences of others that this doesn’t work and decided to choose differently.

i think you can be aggressive about what you want and be a nice guy but also stand up for yourself and work hard to achieve. also i think anyone becoming selfish and self centered and sacrificing others to advance themselves are always going to come out losing in happiness.
